Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking official commented the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
