Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
