England and Welsh Drawn Together for 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was conducted by rugby icons including former All Black Dan Carter.

The English side together with Wales find themselves placed in the same group for the 2027 RWC, setting up a major early encounter in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Pool F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This pairing recalls their infamous meeting in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at England's home ground contributed to the hosts' shock group stage elimination.

Other Notable Pool Pairings

The Irish alongside Scotland have likewise been drawn in a pool together, just as the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, they claimed a convincing win, with Scotland unable to advance to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Portugal, both made a strong impression as underdogs in France, round out that same group.

Notably, the winners of both Pool D and Pool F cannot meet defending champions and world number one the Springboks until the final, presuming the South Africans win their assigned pool.

Knockout Ramifications

If the pools conclude according to the current world rankings, other top favourites like the All Blacks and France would remain separated from the likes of the English and Ireland all the way to the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the remaining highly-seeded nation on that side of the elimination bracket as those northern hemisphere teams.

Tournament Hosts Draw Blockbuster Fixture

Tournament hosts Australia have been drawn together with their great rivals and triple champions New Zealand in Group A.

Australia will open the tournament in the city of Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster match aimed at launch the event.

Elsewhere, reigning champions the Springboks have been paired with the Azzurri, Georgia and Romania. The French team are grouped with the Brave Blossoms, future hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will take on Fiji, Spain and Canada as the World Cup expands to 24 teams from the twenty who competed in France.

The 2027 tournament will feature a round of 16 stage for the first time in Rugby World Cup history.

Although the winner of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the game's heavyweights early on, they will meet the second-placed team from Pool B – probably Italy – in the first knockout round.

A total of four of the other six group winners will play a third-placed side from the initial group phase.
